Tips to get started racing

I’m looking to get into road racing at mission, I’ve done a few track days in my brz and looking to take the course next year and move into road racing.
What car should I be looking to get started in? I saw a crx for sale, is there any way to have a street legal car that I can throw temporary plates on so I don’t need a car trailer as well?
I am assuming I wouldn’t want to run my brz other than for the course next spring.
I’ve read a bit about classes but am a little confused were to start.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Bring this thread back from the dead....
I completed the driver training course last weekend and am now trying to plan my next moves. I was talking to Robbie with the Formula Vee and it seems that route is a lower operating cost vs the other classes (correct me if I am wrong) so I am thinking of trying a novice race and renting one after purchasing my safety gear (looking for anything used as well).

I don’t suppose there is anyway to run a street legal car in any classes, I see down in the states they have a popular class for the brz and frs cars ( I had the Silver BRZ last weekend) which would have its ups and downs I would imagine.

Hey Shawn,

I’m not aware of any classes that will allow you to run your street car on the track without putting the necessary safety gear in. There is however a CACC discipline Called time attack that allows you to run your street car at Mission Raceway without forking over copious amounts of money to get your car fitted with a roll cage, seat, etc...

I have a Civic for sale which is a great car to get started in. Easy to drive and very competitive. I'm also connected to a group that offers track side support during race weekends if that's something that interests you.

I ended up picking up a miata and safety gear. Now I’m just looking for a few more small things to finish up what I need to get and I’m ready for the track.
Hope to get my car to tech inspection soon. Can anyone answer if I need to take it to the race #2 in June or is it possible to take it to the next time attack and have it teched then, I would prefer to do that so I can enter the June race and not worry about failing tech inspection and not being able to race.

Hi Shawn.
Excellent choice of cars (but I might be biased). I don't believe the CACC tech crew are out at the TA events, but I might be wrong about that. They will certainly be at the CACC#2 in June, but if your car is new to racing, there is a reasonable chance that it would require something before being allowed on the track. Did it come with a CACC logbook?
You might try contacting one or 2 of the tech guys who are active on this forum to see if you can arrange something outside of their event hours if you want to be confident of passing tech in June.

Try contacting TECHMAN or Mike_the_Oldest, from this forum, or you could post a request to Tech Corner on this forum.
