Hyper Legend highly modified mid-engine road racer

1996 Legend Chassis REG #3515.   Power by Yamaha Viper 696cc  Wheelbase stretched to 96 inchesor awesome handling on road course.f  No twitching!   Chassis and body widened 13 inches to accommodate tuned pipes and transverse mid-mount motor.

Kirky aluminum seat.  Pyrotech belts. Removable steering wheel.  Five-gallon fuel cell.  One-hour testing on car, engine and all components, so everything is fresh.

Front suspension inboard coil-over-shocks with mini sprint aluminum uprights and hubs. Ten-inch discs with Wilwood 4-piston calipers.  Single Wilwood 4-piston caliper inboard at rear spool. Twin Wilwood master cylinders with balance bar.

Independent rear suspension from LeGrand Formula Ford.  LeGrand aluminum uprights machined for VW sub axles and bearings.  Uses special VW dune buggy CV joints with 42 degrees angularity. Inboard suspension at all four corners consists of a vertical rod pushing on butterfly arm which pushes on inboard INEX600 Carrera shock/coil.  Ride height adjusted by vertical rods.  Six positions on butterfly wings.   Five custom built swaybars range from half-inch diameter up to one-inch diameter.  All fit front or rear.

Power drives through Yamaha snowmobile VRT belt clutches to 530 chain sprocket arrangement allowing multiple final drive ratios by changing small sprocket or big sprocket.  Solid spool in the center has two double-row high speed bearings.  Power input on the right side of the spool from the big sprocket.  Brake caliper on the left side of the spool squeezes drilled stainless steel disc with Wilwood caliper, same caliper as employed on front brakes.

3-seven inch-wide 13-inch Kaiser split aluminum wheels with Toyo 206/60R-13 86V RA1 at the rear.   3-six-inch wide 13-inch genuine LeGrand FF magnesium wheels with Toyo 185/60R-13 80V RA1 at the front.

MOTOR – No sound sweeter than a two-stroke triple at 8,000 rpm. EGT gauge on each exhaust pipe installed at the power valve.  Water temp gauges for cool water flowing in at bottom and hot water coming out of head.  Highly modified Ian Tomassi Mikuni carbs.

Viper 696 cc with new VForce reeds and Tim Bender triple tuned pipes.  Tomassi modified head.   Fresh, one hour running to test car.  Motor had 650 miles on it when we bought it at auction, but we performed overhaul anyway.  Estimate 170hp to 180hp.  Built by Les Barton.
