Title: Help! Are you going to the U.S.? Post by Tedd on Feb 13th, 2012 at 9:55am
I have myself in a bit of a bind. I ordered some tires from JB and had them sent to Blaine, planning to pick them up. But I can't find my Nexus card, do not have an Enhanced Driver's License, and my passport has expired, which means I can't go to the U.S. until one of those things gets corrected -- a couple of weeks, best-case scenario.
If you're planning to go through Blaine any time in the near future and would be willing to pick up the tires for me I would be extremely grateful. Please reply here or send me a message. I expect the tires will have to be declared and taxes paid, which I will, of course, cover. |

Just for info - if your passport is expired, so is your Nexus. They are linked, with your Visa card.

My passport expires this year, 5 years from its date of issue, my Nexus card expires on my birthday next year. The don't expire at the same time. |

Surprisingly (to me), I was able to cross the border using my expired passport. I phoned ahead and they said that would be okay. Go figure.
So I have my tires. Thanks to everyone for your replies. |

A Passport is not required for Canadians to get across the border. They are requiring a secure photo ID card to prove who you are. Passport that has expired is still a secure photo ID. My daughter only had her british passport and they accepted that she was born in Canada to avoid paying for a visa that is required for British citizens crossing.

That makes a lot of sense!
I guess Home Security has other means of 'checking you out'! 8) |

You probably only need a drivers licence and birth certificate.
I was at Hyder Alaska in the summer and there was no US customs, but Canada customs was there and needed proof of identity and citizenship. |
