Title: Driver Training
Post by Mike_the_Oldest on Jul 16th, 2012 at 6:44am
How did the driver training go? How many students? AND, most significanlty, how were the mosquitoes?

About 30 students, excellent two days, a few breakdowns but no accidents that I'm aware of, some potential racers. Mosquitoes not bad Saturday, a little worse on Sunday (bring your bug spray on August 4/5). BCCCA did some spraying from a helicopter a few weeks ago, it appears to have had some success, I was expecting it to be much worse with the high water we had this year.

This driver training was my first track experience, and it was a blast! The crew has so helpful and professional (thanks for all your hard work!). A really well setup program. Once I get a kill switch installed and my racing license, I'll be joining the other spec Miata drivers.

Glad  you enjoyed yourself Todd. That's just what we need another Spec Miata out there. Soon they will outnumber the mosquitos ! ::) Glad to have you.

Mike, the bugs are not as bad as expected.Previous years have been much worse. Most excellent Driver Training. Really good group of students. I was totally at ease when the students were on track, i was confident that they were not going to do anything silly. All the instructors did a terrific job, as usual. Thanks to all the support volunteers who came out and made the experience so much better and real for the students. I think there are more than just a couple of students that are on the prowl for a good race car. We look forward to welcoming a number of new racers into the fold.

It appears that the Driver Training was a great success. Terrific. I'm glad to hear it.

And, another plus. Not too many mosquitoes. YIPPEE!!

It's all good.

By the way Todd. You were used by a number of instructors as the Poster Child of how to do it right. Driving accuracy and consistence was graded as an A plus. Students doing trackside observation were told to "watch the Miata, he's doing it right!" Good Job! Look forward to seeing you on the track, You will be in good company among the Miata Maniacs  :o

Yes this past weekend's DT was outstanding.  The entire weekend ran like a well oiled machined and such a competent group of students made it so much easier.

Once again the RDC proved why they are some of the very best in the business!

Gayle was busy signing up new club members at the end of the day as well.

Great job done by everyone involved.

On behalf of the entire membership, THANK YOU!

Steve

This was an awesome experience, learned tons, can't wait to join the novice program!

A big shout out to all the organizers, track workers and instructors, you guys are top notch - Thank you!!!

Anyone that is on the fence in regards to taking this class, just do it, you will not regret it.

All students had a great time as far as I could tell. I know a couple of the students were Chumpcar racers wishing to improve their skills.

As for me, by the end I had tapped into my long forgotten DRC instincts. I hope to see many of my fellow Driver Training classmates on the September 1 to 3 weekend (ICSCC Labour Daze Weekend). Next time I'm on track I won't be nursing a tired car suffering oil pressure problems.

Will the Labour Daze Weekend have any Novice events? Just faxed my SCCBC membership application, and will be applying for my Novice License asap.

Yes we plan on having Novice races both Saturday and Sunday.  We are just waiting on approval from ICSCC.

Successfully completing both of those would give you 2 of the 3 you need for an upgrade to a Senior license.

Welcome to the Club and to the Racing Family!

Tod,

Did you take any in car video of your session? I'd like to see it. Here is mine for the first half of the mock race: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vozP8PQZ9Qc&feature=plcp.

No, didn't have a video camera, but I'll definitely have something to record my first race :)
