Title: Castrol Raceway, Edmonton Post by Mike_the_Oldest on May 13th, 2013 at 11:25am
I received this from a friend in Edmonton (he's an oval track racer so he's not up to speed on road course racing). Possibly someone can provide further information.
As I am sure you are all quite aware there has been a tremendous amount of construction taking place south of our beloved Drag Strip for the past 18 months (I’ve seen many of you checking out the construction); we are very proud to finally announce the official opening of our newest venue at Castrol Raceway- the Road Course. The development of our long awaited Road Course when combined with the Drag Strip, The 3/8 Clay Oval, the Mini 600 Clay Oval, and the National Motocross track venue places Castrol Raceway as the most extensive motorsport facility in Canada. Our first function on the Road Course is scheduled for Friday May 24, with an additional 60 plus events scheduled throughout the season. With this tremendous expansion of our facility and as Castrol Raceway continues to grow by the addition of a new venue, there is Absolutely going to be a learning curve for all gate and facility staff this season. I expect we will have hiccups along the way and I hope that everyone can be patient as we grow our facility and develop more efficient procedures as time goes on. There will also be a tremendous learning curve for you our Drag Competitors. In years past Castrol Raceway has often made accommodation for those Drag Competitors wishing to leave their Trucks/Trailers on-site throughout the week and offering occasional early admission to those wishing to enter on Friday afternoons. Unfortunately for those of you who regularly call the Pro Pit home on Bracketeer weekends, the Pro Pit area will no longer be accessible prior to 5pm on Fridays and equipment cannot be left in the Pro Pit area throughout the week. The area currently referred to as the Pro Pit will also be considered the Main Paddock area for events taking place on the Road Course. In a strict e |

well thats disappointing.
Looking previously at the aerial shot the last thing I wouldve expected to see is a concrete tunnel. Have to say it's off my "must visit" list. |

They say its going to change some but the way its laid out i can't see much of it going away as on the other side of the wall is a 6 foot drop and then the track headed in the other direction.
The north loop of the track looks much better more spaced out and shouldn't need much concrete up there. But they did get a good deal on the concrete barriers from the Edmonton indy so they just had to use them all. |

I wondered where the M.I.V. blocks went , that looks like a brutal concrete canyon .
