Title: Radios! Post by unxetas on Oct 4th, 2013 at 8:15am
So Ana wants to be my crew chief (I'm not forcing her.. honest!) and I guess she feels lonely in the paddock during my sessions, so we're buying radios.. :D
I'm gonna get a HAM license and all that stuff and have a pretty good idea of what I'm going to buy. Just checking though if there are any specific requirements for radio use at the track, or anything I should know before I splurge on this stuff. Being serious for a second, I'm mostly wanting to use the radios for testing and practice sessions, along with running at tracks South of the border where having another pair of eyes will be a bigger help. Anyway, any tips appreciated. I'm reading a bunch about how to use these things and general HAM stuff, but I'd be curious to hear what others are actually doing at the track. Cheers! Tiago |

There is a section in the CACC rulebook which covers the use of radios. Read that for starters.

We have a rulebook?..
;D Thanks, didn't think of that! I'll go dig it up. |

Ok, got it. No car-to-car communication (that could have been useful!) and I must inform the clerk of the course which frequencies I'll be using. Who is the clerk of the course? The Chief Steward? The race director?
EDIT - turns out, this is described in a different rulebook! Found it :) |

Thanks Mike. On a somewhat related note.. I am terrible with names and functions, etc. How do I find out who is doing what at a given weekend? Do these functions (stewards, clerk of the course, etc..) get posted somewhere?

There is now a section on the Motorsportreg entry form for entering your radio frequencies. If you complete that section you have satisfied the rules.
