if it's on period correct tires I'm surprised he had that much grip. It was one thing to throw these things around on a wide open track but to keep it between the walls and barriers of this goat path they call a road is truly the epitome of skilled. Hats off to him.

I wouldn't want to start an arguement, but I've heard from some other experienced drivers (from that era, too) who contend the car definitely understeered a lot, but that the driver wasn't all that good.

It's debateable, either way.

As an aside, when we used to race at Westwood in the very early 60s we had a couple of young people who towed all the way from Cloverdale, California. The raced a 300SL and towed it to Canada using another 300SL as a tow vehicle. Cool!
