Title: Safety Truck
Post by wreckerbob on Apr 6th, 2011 at 3:00pm
It appears that the safety truck [ meta truck ] has had the suppression system removed . Has any thought been given to replacement equipment , was the " chief of emergency" advised of this , what are the requirement for FIA  / CCAC / ETC , are we covered . did anyone seek advise on this move ?  comments please

Just wondering after talking to Ecrew , WHY WAS THE WATER TANK REMOVED AND NOT REPLACED? in the meta truck.
I guess the propane tank they were using was getting old but for some reason it was removed before a replacement was obtained?
Can someone from our exec please explain why this has happened and if it is being resolved.

Also was wondering if SCCBC has helped outfit the donated E-CREW truck with the equipment that they require to stop a racer from getting injured (burned).

SAFETY?

Is that not where our funds should be spent?

Thanx
Doodson

I can give an unofficial response.
  • SCCBC executive was not involved in the decision to remove the fire suppression system from the META truck, that was a META decision. At the time we were of the understanding that it was no longer useable.
  • From a CACC perspective neither of the trucks needs the fire suppression system, and for years we only had the one.
  • The other truck that Ecrew uses has a fire suppression system.
  • If you have a fire in your car stopping at a turn station is the best bet anyway as there are always multiple extinguishers available
  • There are always fire extinguishers in locations between turns so the can be quickly accessed by corner crew.
  • Even with one truck most places on the the track can be accessed within 30 seconds (after the truck is released by race control).

In short, safety at the MRPRC has always and continues to exceed CACC requirements in most areas.
