Post by Bob_Williams on Aug 22nd, 2011 at 8:25am
VARA is having it's annual Octoberfest event Sept 10/11. I know it's a little short notice and the next w/e after our labor day event......so what. I'm leaving wed. afternoon arriving thurs. pm. practice fri. race sat/sun. dinner sat. prizes, and stuff. Should be fun. At this point Bob Posner, Steve Young (?) and myself. Any more interested log onto WWW.VARARACING.COM.   Octoberfest 2011. or contact me and I'll help if I can. They have opened the event to ALL years of Vees.

Two day drive.
Plan to go to Yreka, Ca the first night (12-13 hours)
Then 8 hours the next day.
The hotels are 20 mins away at the Hwy 58 & I5 inter-change.

Temps are easily in the 100-110F range.
Last time we went the team went through every sports drink we could buy!
Bring a hugh fan, it helps a ton.

Track is quit fun to drive if you are cool enough.

Yes.....you are correct. But.......you can't take it with you and you can't send it ahead. So........ ;) One day, and you don't know when......I could be a spectator all the time.

Wow! So you plan to drive straight through!
Trip is 20-22 hours minimum with gas stops. (1800 Km)
It is 12-13 hours just to the california boarder!

You guys are obviously way younger than me!

PS: Watch the California CHIP as you are only allowed to run
at 55MPH and they will nail your ass anything over 60 MPH.

I would love to run a vee one day!
-I really enjoyed my run in an Atlantic earlier this year.

Thanks for your input Collin. Having traveled I-5 a "few" times, you get used to doing the posted speed. Slow and steady gets you there just as well, and some times without the extra paper work that goes along with a ticket. Grants Pass 10 hours (ok 11 towing), another 9 to the track. No need to stop. on the way back it may be a bit different. i have convinced 2 more drivers from here to go with us. at this time apparently there are 28 plus us. Need all these folks to come here for next years event. Wish us luck.

The 43 degrees sound great, it's the week of being away that stopped me from going. Bad timing, got a project delivery on the 15th!

well......that was an interesting trip. Great track, a little hard getting use to it as there was no brake markers, and some of it is blind so you really need to know where and how fast you are closing. crapy drive down with some break downs, back was a breeze, 20 hrs. 1260.00 round trip for fuel. 1270.00 for rear tires on the m/h, meeting a lot of cool people, seeing more d-13's than i thought existed, great food, thunder and lightning show that was better than any "celebration of light" show i've ever seen, over 2 hours of it, a little rain to remind us of home, and a w/e with Bob Posner, aka the Poz. Priceless! Next year for sure again. Sept. 8/9 2012. We really needed the Friday Practice but were late getting there. by sat. pm we figured it out......or at least i had. The Poz's flywheel came loose Saturday and his w/e was done. Bob closed out the w/e with my car. Sunday am the #01 General Vee set a new track record.........can't tell a lie......I wasn't driving. and I know what you're thinking.......but it wasn't the Poz either.......it was a local boy Terran Swanson. Little s--t.  ;) 135 lb's.  No wonder :-/ :-/ So who's coming next year......can't plan that far ahead.......I'll keep you posted. ;D
