Title: Vintage Formula car Question
Post by collin_Jackson on May 11th, 2015 at 11:31am
Do I have to run just the Sunday in Vintage, or am I allowed to enter the Formula Libra class with my vintage car?
Car is a 1973 Brabham BT40 Formula Atlantic.
-It does have a CASC log book, if that helps.
Not sure about all the rules and such for FL.

You can run libra on sat. I run both days in my 77 Tiga ff ow it does not show it as vintage on sunday because i didn't reg as vintage. Because i'm a VRCBC member and have a vintage lic the VRCBC accepts it as vintage club points, i guess you can call it double dipping. ;D

Alan

So you just entered FL for both days then?
I wonder if I would be legal doing that as well (safety equipment wise)
I May actually be safer in formula car group, as the average car would be closer to my Atlantic car (Theoretically)
Anyone with the club able to confirm it?

Collin

Collin:

A couple of things to consider:

1. Vintage formula cars run with the club formula cars.

2. The CACC regulations for FL say that "Firewall, floor pan and other safety items must meet the standards described in the FF regulations". That would mean meeting the SCCA safety requirements for FF cars per the latest SCCA GCR. A careful read of the SCCA GCR migth be in order.

You will also need a Senior Race license or equivalent, and not just a Vintage Race license.

Got a license so no issue there.

Thanks Mike.
I think the only issue I would have then is if I need either, a front role hoop, or front diagonal bars from the main hoop.
I will look into it.
If we run together Sunday seems odd that I could not get a tech sticker for both days.

Hi Colin
Technically if we have vintage cars in the regular ow race group they should have the higher safety standards. I believe that most of the vintage cars that run the Rev series do. Vintage Ow run in on this group as a courtesy as there were only a few of them and couldn't justify their own race group. If possible it would be prudent to confirm with current safety standards. Look forward to having you out and seeing the car back on the track. It should be able to give the f1000 a run.

Thanks all!
I have entered the test day and the Vintage race on Sunday. I will just watch on Saturday.
Not trying to make waves, just entries!

Ditto what Mike said about meeting the requirements for a non vintage car to run in FL -- you need to be careful about that.

Regarding vintage championship points, if you are a member of the VRCBC and your car is an eligible vintage car then you will get points towards the vintage championship (REVS) whether you enter as vintage or not. (But only in the Sunday OW races.) I always enter as vintage just to make a statement, but the fact is it costs a few bucks more and you get no advantage (other than feeling morally superior).
