Fire Extinguisher Requirement
Apr 25th, 2011 at 8:37am

hello,

I am building a car for road racing and I have been getting confused while trying to search for fire extinguisher regs. I was just wondering  if the basic 2.5lb basic fire extinguisher is enough to pass tech?

thanks

To respond to your question you will need to do one of two things:

1. Read the CACC regulations which are posted on-line.

2. Provide more information on the classification of car you are building. i.e. GT, IP, or........

I am building an IP2 car. I've been looking through the regs/appendix and all I can find is fire suppression systems. It says it wants a extinguisher with a 2.25 L min capacity and the material to be halon 1301, 1211, AFFF or a foam material equivalent. If this is right, do I need a halon extinguisher or can I use a normal ABC dry chem one, or am I looking at the wrong thing?

Contact me off-line at michael_currie@telus.net and I'll chase down the answer for you.

There's a little more to this than first meets the eye.

An IP2 car must be built to the current SCCA IT rules. You need a fire extinguisher as the IT rules require one. It would have to meet at the least the current CACC rules.
