Helmets for 2013
Jan 14th, 2013 at 5:44am

Are there changes to the regs for helmets this year?

Specifically, Appendix III Competitor Safety Equipment.  I have an SA 2005 helmet.  Do I need to replace it this year?

From the latest SCCA GCRs:

Crash helmets approved by the Snell Foundation with
Snell sticker 2005 or later Special Application (SA2005) or
SAH2010, or by the SFI with a SFI Sticker SFI 31.1, or by the
FIA standard 8860-2004 or later, or British Standards Institute
BS6658-85 type A/FR. The back of each driver’s helmet
shall be labeled with a minimum of the driver’s name.

Please confirm that SA 2000 helmets will be acceptable for CACC events this year.

Thank you.

This is the last year for SA2000 helmets. Check your helmet and if you do have a SA2000, budget for a new helmet for 2014 or buy a new one now. So this is the first of a number of announcements that I will make throughout the year. So start collecting that beer can money in order to buy a new helmet next year. Those of you with SA2005 should also maybe start a new helmet fund as well  Wink. Please be advised that if you plan on competing at the ICSCC race on the Labour Day weekend, SA2005 or better helmets are required.
