transponders

I'm getting ready to spend some money on a transponder and wanted to check with everyone as to whether the Mylaps X2 unit (or used tranX 260) is still the way to go. There is a lot of chatter about transponders on the web and I was wondering if there is an up-and-coming competitor to be aware of, or any other alternatives.
