Is anyone else attending this event or competing in it?

I got offered a ride in a V-8 powered RX-7.
It was pretty hard to say no to that. Plus I have always wanted to compete in a 24 hour race.

Do it
They're a spin off from the 24 hours of LeMons, and from what I hear, they're almost as much fun!
Unfortunately our Volvo won't make it.. Who knows, maybe next year.

Well we had a great time racing in Spokane. The Chump car series is great. You just show up and race. No B.S. And they are just as cautious about safety as we are here. In fact a neck brace/restraint is mandatory.
The entry fee is very reasonable. Only $500 for a 24 hour race. Talk about lots of track time!
If you are new to the series, you must attend their class. It is pretty basic, as many people competing there had never raced anything, including one of our team members.
They actually 'encourage' contact. As long as you do not intentially put someone off track or into a wall.
The cars are not expensive, but they are still competitive. It is what road racing used to be back in the old days. You just 'run what your brung', no hassles, and go and race and have fun.
I wish we had more events like this in our area.

There was one in Portland last year and I think they are intending to run again this year, ask Bob Williams or Gayle Baird they ran it last year. The white Civic that F.A.R.T. runs at MRP is a Chump car.

It is loads of fun. I ran in the FART car last year at Portland. The organizers are very hot on safety and they definitley did not encourage contact at Portland. Penalty laps were handed down for that.
At least half the drivers had no wheel to wheel race experience. Some had solo event experience so safety was paramount. Any refueling pit stop was a mandatory 5 min so that took away any need to rush. Driver change pit stops were not timed.
Anyways, if you get a chance - have a go. Utube is full of chumpcar video.

Yes, we were penalized 5 min for refuelling outside of the normal break times. There is a 15 min break every 3 hours. None from Midnight to 8 am though.
And yes you have to have full fire protection clothing to do the refuelling.
Hey we even got a free airshow! The F-16 Thunderbirds, the stealth bomber, etc

Chumpcar approached us to run a race here but they seemed to have lost interest.

I would say that River's Edge would be way too hard on a car for a 24 hour race, especially brakes. The Chump Cars at Spokane included such monstrocities as a 1970's full sixed Dodge sedan! (Their 10th event, by the way)
