Could someone recommend a base FF gearing for knox, or could someone please let me know what top speed I should be targeting?

Thanks,
Mike

I can't give you anything specific for a FF, but my Spec Miata tops out around 85mph and the faster cars easily break 100+ mph. I hope that helps!

Knox Mtn. is just an uphill drag race, with some really, really tight, 1st gear turns thrown in. Put as much gear as you can get into the car, to get off the corners. If you search YouTube for John Haftner at Knox Mtn., there is a GREAT in car video of his 1:37 record run up the hill. Turn up the sound and listen to the revs, it will give you an idea of how he geared his Tuie. formula car.

I've run 5:14's in my Datsun 1200 on 20" tall slicks and a 1 to 1 fifth gear and that was still not short enough gear for the straight.  Seemed like the shorter gears I ran, the better my times were. This was based on an 1171cc motor with no torque but lots of revs.

Knox is a really social group too, when you get up there ask some other formula drivers for advice, etc. They've always been helpful. Have fun!

Thanks for the suggestions, I have reached out to Marty so I will see what he says.

I'm actually thinking of just running solo2 gearing with a 4th gear to target ~100mph. Does anyone think that this would be too far off?

It is not a formula ford by a long stretch but the MGB with 3.9 rear gear and 23.5 inch slicks is hitting 6700 RPM going into corner 7  1 to 1 in 4th. My math makes that damn fast.  We run a Tremec T5 and use only 3 gears, but then we have lots of torque. Jim Keller might be another to ask as we haven't had that many formula cars out lately and he has lots of history at the hill with fords.
