I am seeking additional information on a 1963 Pontiac Tempest raced in the 1964 Portland Rose Cup. According to the information I have so far, the car was driven by Mike Scriabin from Vancouver, BC and entered by Bowell McLean, a multi-franchise car dealership also from Vancouver. The car won “Sedan 3” at the event. So far I can find no other references to the car’s racing history. There are references to Scriabin driving an HP Sprite in races in British Columbia, Washington and Oregon.  From what I understand, the Pontiac Tempest was not marketed by GM in Canada so I find sponsorship by a Canadian car dealer interesting.
Information gathered indicates Scriabin is deceased and Bowell McLean is no longer in business.
My interest deals with my research into the road racing Pontiac Tempests/LeMans of the early 60’s. Not long after the Tempest’s introduction GM began a program to race the cars in FIA endurance contests. The cars would compete in FIA sanctioned events at Marlboro, MD and Daytona, FL.
