Club Group and Class Championship Rules

Championship Points and Awards System

In an effort to make the race points allocation system more equitable and to enhance the overall experience for the club membership, a committee was formed to review the current and prospective points systems. The committee recommended the adoption of a new points and championship system as a pilot project for 2015, which the membership in attendance at the April 8, 2015 SCCBC club meeting voted overwhelmingly to adopt.

Prior to 2015, race points were allocated by class but awards were given out on a group basis only (one each for Open Wheel, Closed Wheel and Sports Racer). For the pilot year of 2015, the points and championship systems were changed to introduce club class championships, and to introduce an enhanced points allocation system similar to ICSCC.

During the inaugural 2015 year, two shortcomings were identified in the new points system. First, it was felt that too much emphasis was placed on participation and not enough on winning position. Second, it was difficult for drivers in large classes to earn enough points to compete against drivers in small classes in the group championship race. In response to this feedback, the committee put forward a motion at the 2016 AGM to modify the points system to address these concerns.

The text of the approved policy changes is available for download here and is also provided below. Note that the policy was approved for permanent implementation at the 2016 SCCBC AGM.
