Since 1981 the British Columbia Historic Motor Races (BCHMR) have grown to become the largest vintage racing event in Western Canada and one of the largest in the Pacific Northwest. The 2014 event will feature open-wheel Formula race cars, with the Formula Ford class competing for the Westwood Cup in the featured event. This year the event will also celebrate of the 50th anniversary of the arrival of Japanese racing cars in BC.
The 2014 BCHMR, scheduled for August 15, 16 and 17 at River’s Edge Road Course at Mission Raceway Park, has become an annual gathering for vintage racing fans, as well as local classic car enthusiasts who will display their fascinating cars in a special area, creating a show of their own.
Adding to the festive atmosphere are the many sponsor booths offering everything from automobilia to artwork to automotive product displays. The food concessions, informative track-side commentary and excellent grandstand viewing, combine to make this a wonderful and entertaining weekend for families and enthusiasts alike.
Call for Field of Dream Participants
If you have a collector car or motorcycle or a special vehicle that may be of interest to motorsport enthusiasts, you’re invited to display it at the 2014 BC Historic Motor Races “Field of Dreams” display area at River’s Edge Road Course at Mission Raceway Park on August 16 and 17. For only $15.00 per day, each participant will receive spectator passes to the races for themselves and all occupants of their display vehicle. A trophy will be awarded by a guest VIP. Car display participants are also invited to enter an on-track parade at noon on both days of the event.
2014 Westwood Reunion and Barbeque
Westwood, Canada’s first real road racing circuit, may have closed in 1990 but it hasn’t been forgotten. Each year at the BCHMR, Westwood veterans and fans get together to recall those grand times while enjoying a wonderful meal. 2014 is no exception. The Westwood Reunion Barbeque will be held at River’s Edge Road Course at 5:00pm, Friday August 15 during the 2014 BC Historic Motor Races. Your hosts for the reunion will be two legends of Westwood, Eddie Clements and Gio Coletta. Entry is $12.00 by donation (BYOB).
